Previously convened in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico, and now held in Oaxaca, Oaxaca, Mexico, the annual Retreat and Encuentro brings together writers from Canada, Mexico, and United States for two weeks in January as a means of providing El Grand Balam recipient, Fellows, and Senior Fellows with time to work in a new and inspirational environment away from their daily lives and as a means of fostering a collaborative community of working artists.
