Held in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico, the annual Retreat and Encuentro brings together writers from Canada, Mexico, and United States for two weeks in January as a means of providing El Grand Balam recipient, Fellows, and Senior Fellows with time to work in a new and inspirational environment away from their daily lives and as a means of fostering a collaborative community of working artists.
